Description
These famous vineyards were originally a gift from Emperor Charlemagne to the religious community of Saint-Andoche de Saulieu in the year 775. Their south-west exposure is rather unusual for the area, making these some of the most prized Grand Cru Chardonnay vines of the Côte de Beaune. The plot is planted 1000 feet up on the highest part of the hill on limestone soil with white loam. A full bodied wine with notes of honey and vanilla, this wine makes for an excellent cheese pairing.
