Description
Chateau Grand Mayne can track its history back to 1685 and the Laveau family. The name Mayne comes from the word manor, a large home surrounded by a large parcel of land. The vineyard is sited on the west of Saint Emilion, at the bottom of the plateau, found in front of Chateau Angelus, Canon and Beau-Sejour Becot. The vineyard is a result of vines planted on the clay and limestone found on the hillside and parcels found further down at the bottom of the slopes, where these is far more sand. The vineyards are planted with 76% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon. Today the Estate is run by the Nony Family, led by Jean-Pierre Nony since 1975. They have the great Michel Rolland as consultant and as one might imagine the wine lends itself to deep, intense colour, a full-bodied rich and ripe profile, with plenty of power. No expensive is spared in the production, with 100% new French oak used for 24 months. Production remains very low, with less than 5,000 cases produced per vintage: this will be stretched this year by the obviously large demand for such an outstanding wine.
