Description

Don Maximiano Errazuriz founded Vina Errazuriz in 1870 in the Aconcagua Valley, 65 miles north of Santiago, Chile. Recognizing that the valley’s hot, dry summers and moist Pacific Ocean breezes provided ideal conditions for growing grapes, Don Maximiano planted carefully selected French clones and slowly transformed a barren landscape into a world-class vineyard. Eduardo Chadwick is the fifth consecutive generation of his family to lead this historic estate according to Don Maximiano’s philosophy – “From the best land, the best wine.” For more than a century, Errazuriz has produced some of the finest wines in Chile by managing each stage of winemaking from grape to bottle. Unlike most major Chilean producers, Errazuriz is entirely estate based, and has always been a leader in quality improvement and innovation, including the use of natural farming and winemaking techniques and the production of premium Carmenere and Syrah. Errazuriz is one of the first Chilean wineries to earn the certification of sustainability from Vinos de Chile and the Vinnova-Tecnovid Consortium. All the fruit is hand-picked. Winemaker Francisco Baettig earned a Master’s Degree from the Department of Enology at the University of Bordeaux and worked in Sancerre, Pomerol, Languedoc-Roussillon, Santa Cruz and throughout Chile before joining Errazuriz. Has made some of the most highly regarded wines ever produced in Chile. While the evolution of the portfolio has been influenced by changing consumer preferences as well as the development of the vineyards, Errazuriz continues to offer an unparalleled range of quality wines at every price level. The wines in Errazuriz’s Estate Reserva series are made using fruit from their vineyards in the Aconcagua, Casablanca and Curico valleys. The Max Reserva wines are made exclusively from fruit grown on the estate’s Aconcagua Valley vineyards where each varietal is perfectly adapted to its location. Exceptional quality, character and complexity are the hallmarks of this rigorous and intensive effort. Sauvignon Blanc was planted in 2005 on the Manzanar Vineyard in the Aconcagua Costa, 7.5 miles from the Pacific, on loam soils over clay and schist. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were planted in 1997 on the La Escultura Vineyard, which is composed of schist soils and is further inland and warmer with more precipitation. Cabernet Sauvignon was planted over 20 years ago on the Max V Vineyard in Aconcagua on gravel soils with excellent drainage. Carmenere, planted 20 years ago on the Max VI and Max VII Vineyards in Aconcagua on loam soils, ripens well in the warmer climate. Single Vineyard and Specialty wines are smaller production wines that highlight the unique characteristics of terroir and varietal. Truly singular expressions of the house style, varietal and vintage are captured in the Icon Series. Fruit from the best parcels in the family’s Don Maximiano Estate, more specifically from Max II and Max V, is reserved for these wines. Max II sits at 1,903 feet and is planted on deep colluvial loamy soils with a 30-40% stone content. Max V is situated at 1,968 feet and has soils with a slightly higher stone content, approximately 50%. The parcels were planted in 1992 and 1993 respectively. Since the late 1980s when Don Maximiano was recognized as a world-class Cabernet blend, the Icon wines have earned numerous awards and superlative press accolades.

Medium-body, tropical fruit notes, bright acidity and a persistent finish.
