It’s no secret that Cascade Brewing has been making some stellar, world class sours. Housed inside the Raccoon Lodge and Brewpub in Portland, OR, Cascade specializes in crafting beers that use, in the words of brew master Ron Gansberg, yeast and barrel aging instead of hops to produce flavor. Cascade Kriek is actually a Flanders Red or Oud Bruin (think Rodenbach) that has been brewed with fresh cherries. Although flavored Flanders Red is not a popular style (the only other example that comes to mind is Kasteel Rouge), Cascade Kriek makes the case that it should be. Clocking in at 6.6% ABV, it's lip-smackingly tart with a subtly sweet cherry finish. The carbonation is strong which, along with the cherry nuance, is the perfect accompaniment to the heavy fair most of us will consume on Thanksgiving. On Sale! $15.99/750ml |
