2016 St. Cosme Pre-Arrival & Taste the Tasting!!!

Last week we were thrilled to host the great Louis Barroul of St. Cosme and Forge cellars. Mr. Barroul, aptly nicknamed “Genius of Gigondas” gave us a tremendous tour of his superb reds and whites, including his hotly anticipated 2016’s. If there was one single lesson from the night it was the fact that 2016 is going to be EPIC for Cosme. Mr. Barroul confirmed that he believes 2016 is a superior vintage than the much heralded 2015. Why? It all comes down to tension. The 2016’s have a superb balance of shimmering fruit balanced by taught mineral tension that make them unbelievably delicious.
Mr. Barroul’s Fingerlake project, Forge cellars, was also a revelation. Superbly mineral, but clearly backed with succulent fruit and acid, the Rieslings reminded us of a cross between the flavors of Alsace with the body and power of the Rheingau. Clearly they are serious wines, and for the money utterly superb values.
