Jill Klein Matthiasson of Matthiasson Wines
Steve & Jill Matthiasson started Matthiasson wines in 2003 to to combine their passion for sustainable agriculture with winemaking. Matthiasson creates classical expressions of traditional grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon,along with some rare varietals such as Ribolla gialla. These wines are refreshing, complement food, and are moderate in alcohol.
Jill has a background steeped in in sustainable agriculture including a botany degree at Penn, researching ancient farming techniques in Israel, and studying traditional methods for soil health in grad school at UC Davis. She pioneered “farmer to farmer” networking for sustainability in the early 90s, and ran programs training farmers on direct sales, such as CSAs and farmers markets, before local food had the momentum that it has now.
