Winemaker Seminar: Andrea Léon of Lapostolle

September 25 @ 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Experience world-class wines which combine French winemaking philosophy with the superb terroirs of Chile!

Lapostolle was founded in 1994 by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and husband Cyril de Bournet upon their discovery of a unique Clos in the Apalta Valley sheltering 100 year-old pre-phylloxera vines.

The Marnier-Lapostolle family has been recognized for fine wines and liqueurs since the early 19th century. In establishing her family’s legacy in the New World, Alexandra brought generations of French winemaking tradition and expertise to the rugged landscape of the Colchagua Valley.

Today Charles de Bournet, seventh generation, leads the winery in its newest chapter of innovation, punctuated by the official recognition of the Apalta DO in 2018. Together with Andrea León, Technical Director & Winemaker, they continue to craft wines that honor the winery credo: French in essence, Chilean by birth.

Here, in a horseshoe-shaped valley of the Colchagua Valey with decomposing granite slopes formed by the Coastal Cordillera, are the ancient blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere planted between 1910-1945.

Today, the vineyards span 188 hectares planted to Cabernet, Carmenere, Merlot, and Petit Verdot along with Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Cinsault between the two Apalta vineyard sites.

Join us as we feature wines from Domaine Bournet Lapostalle including library vintages of Carmenere and Cabernet along with the the infamous and limited Clos Apalta!

About Andrea León:
Technical Director & Winemaker for Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle

Andrea has had a lifelong passion for wine, which has led her to an adventurous and successful career in the world of wine. Ultimately her career path landed her the opportunity to craft premium Chilean wines at Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle.

Andrea began her wine studies with coursework in the Agriculture Engineering program at Catholic University of Santiago where she double-majored in Economics and Oenology and Viticulture. Her post college career led to her worldwide travel visiting and working in some of the most famous wine regions of the world. As a result, she has lived in the United States, Europe and New Zealand before returning to Chile.

After working at Santa Helena Winery, part of San Pedro Wine Group, in Colchagua Valley, Andrea joined the DBL team in 2005 as the on-site winemaker for Clos Apalta. In 2009, Andrea was promoted to DBL Communications Director and developed the Collection wine range of Lapostolle to explore the numerous and wonderful terroirs of Chile. In 2018, she was promoted to Technical Director of Lapostolle and finally in July 2020 took over all the Technical and Winemaking Operations of DBL.

Andrea resides near the winery located in Santa Cruz, the heart of the Colchagua Valley of Chile, with her husband and their two sons.
