Never Enough: 2015 O’Shaughnessy Howell Mountain

O'Shaugnessy

There’s never enough O’Shaughnessy.

The uber-boutique, supremely sophisticated wines born from this special Howell Mountain estate comes and goes, never lasting more than a few days at the shop. The rule is, if you see O’Shaughnessy, then you grab it on the spot. Over the years, customers have become too accustomed to heartbreak, which is a shame because these wines offer some of the most memorable and hauntingly elegant mountain fruit we’ve experienced from anywhere in Napa. There is no going around it, O’Shaughnessy is special…and highly elusive for even for the most ardent California collectors.

2015 will prove to be the vintage many O’Shaughnessy collectors ask each other about but never taste. Only a lucky few will experience it. With a loss of over fifty percent of normal yields (due to widespread vine shattering during flowering) what was already a crazy-limited wine is now endangered to the rare/impossible category. With only a few cases coming into Massachusetts, we’re lucky enough to have acquired a sizeable (but still small) allocation for you. Do not blink, because this will disappear very, very quickly.

2015 O’Shaughnessy Howell Mountain

“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is redolent of warm blackberries and black cherries with hints of Indian spices, fertile soil, cedar and hoisin. Big, full-bodied and voluptuous in the mouth, the concentrated, multilayered fruit is well framed by firm, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.” 95 Points, Wine Advocate
