Our tally keeps climbing and we’re closing in on our goal of $18,000 for our friends in the hospitality trade. And today our partners at leading Spanish and Portuguese wine importer Ole/Obrigado are getting in on the action!
Ole has been at the leading edge of Spanish and Portuguese wine for well over 20 years. Patrick Mata founded the company in 1999 and has introduced the United States to some of the leading producers: Raul Perez, Osborne, Forjas del Salnes (Leirana), Naveran and more. One of his closest partners is the dynamic Alberto Orte.
Orte is one of Spain’s most prolific and talented producers. Crafting a range of wines from across Spain’s diverse appellations and regions, he has somehow managed to both maintain traditions in regions where it is slipping away, and shine a light on emerging regions that the world has either forgotten or not yet discovered.
His work in Rioja at La Antigua is exemplary. Crafting brilliant, traditionally styled Rioja in a friendly fruit forward style, the wines have been more than easy to like. Moreover, the current release of the Reserva is from the epic 2010 vintage.
2010 will go down as one of the best vintages in Rioja in modern memory. With nearly every major Bodega producing iconic and what will be legendary bottlings, it’s a vintage to go long on.
With help from our friends at Ole/Obrigado, we’re offering this exceptional wine at fantastic pricing, and for every bottle sold, $5 will be contributed to the Restaurant Strong Fund.
Help us reach our goal. And drink well in the meantime!!!

91 pts. “Deep red. Lively smoke- and spice-accented cherry and red berry aromas are complemented by floral oil, game and pipe tobacco flourishes. Seamless and focused on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter with air. Shows very good energy and suave floral character on a long, fruit-driven finish that's given shape by well-integrated tannins.” Vinous
