One of the great wine estates of the world, few properties compare to majesty and classicism of Tuscany’s Fèlsina. These are drop dead gorgeous expressions of Sangiovese that seem to attract every type of wine lover imaginable. They are traditional, old school, incredibly complex, and, like the best Italian wines, convey a beautiful sense of heart and soul. The hype and critical acclaim for Fèlsina much anticipated 2015 Rancia marks one of the most exciting releases from this domain ever–just look at Galloni’s stratospheric score. 2015 is a hugely celebrated vintage for Tuscany, and Fèlsina’s sterling effort for their flagship Rancia is not to be missed.

2015 Fèlsina Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia

“The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is one of the most finessed young Rancias I have ever tasted. Silky, aromatically precise and nuanced to the core, the 2015 is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. This is an impressive showing.” 94-97 pts, Antonio Galloni

More About the Wine

Many don’t realize that Rancia is named after a farm. Thirty miles away from Florence in Castelnuovo Berardenga, the vineyard section rests on the farm’s “poorest” soils: limestone. This makes sense. In history, traditional grape growers were the poorest among the farmers and could only afford the land that other crops could not grow on. Today, especially in Rancia’s case, this turned out to be a blessing.

While ancient in origin, Fèlsina’s Rancia leans modern: 100% destemmed Sangiovese, fermented and macerated in stainless steel and aged in completely new French oak. To be sure, this is not your mom and pop’s old Chianti–but that doesn’t really matter. The best Rancia, like the best Chianti, provide joyfully dramatic fruit in a package that is both cerebral but never shies away from being perfect on the table, either. 2015 promises to be one of the best Rancia’s in over a decade. Don’t miss your opportunity to scoop it up!
