Easily one of the truly great wines of the world, Paolo de Marchi’s masterful Cepparello is the gold standard for Sangiovese. Recently awarded a stellar 94 to 97 points by Antonio Galloni, this 2016 is one for the ages. Why? The superb quality of the vintage. Like other parts of Europe, 2016 is uniformly excellent. In Tuscany, while yields were down, it was a balanced growing season leading to wines of sublime harmony, perfumed aromatics and downright brilliant energy. Bring that favorable growing season into the hands of a master like Paolo de Marchi and it’s no surprise just how significant the 2016 Cepparello is.

“The 2016s are distinguished by their superb aromatic presence, silky tannins, layered fruit and fabulous sense of harmony,” writes Mr. Galloni. “…I have tasted so far point to a high-quality vintage that may very well turn out to be profound.” A brilliant contrast to 2015’s dark sexy appeal the 2016 Cepparello charms by way of elegance and irresistible harmony. Even better, we can easily see this wine going well over 25 years in the cellar. It goes without saying, no true wine lover should pass on this iconic wine.

2016 Isole e Olena Cepparello

“The 2016 Cepparello is shaping up to be another magnificent wine from proprietor Paolo De Marci. Vivid and nuanced, with veins of saline-infused energy, the 2016 is also creamy and resonant, not to mention impeccable in its overall balance. A burst of dark red/purplish berry fruit, crushed rocks and graphite punctuate the finish. This is a super-impressive showing." 94-97 points, Vinous

More About the Wine

What separates Cepparello from the rest of the Tuscan pack is Mr. Demarchi. A staunch traditionalist to the core, he has held fast to his convictions and been a grand defender of Sangiovese and traditional methods in Chianti. His relentless eye for detail–both in his cellar  and his organic vineyards–makes Demarchi one of the best winemakers in the country. His wines are monuments to not only the varietal, but the entire country.

“Make no mistake about it, these are some of the greatest wines being made anywhere in the world,” wrote Galloni. It doesn’t hurt that Mr. Demarchi also lays claim to some of the most prized vineyards in Tuscany, either.  For collectors the 2016 is a significant release and simply cannot be missed. Trust us, you’ll regret it.
