Before I tell you about this wine, just know that this is unacceptably delicious. Like, gulpably, gluggably, incredibly delicious. If you don’t buy a case of this, you will be kicking yourself. Our entire staff was gushing over this … for days.

Now to the wine ...

The tiny, colorful Mediterranean estate of Bisson has produced exceptional, under the radar wines for years. Lead by the vivacious Pierluigi Lugano, a sun-tanned artist come fisherman come wine shop owner who happens to specialize in growing ancient, indigenous, and increasingly uncommon grape varieties on the Ligurian coast, Lugano’s little estate has quietly turned into a favorite within Neal Rosenthal’s Italian portfolio. The wines are quirky and exotically colorful, all of them threaded together by a spectrum of citrus and seashells, flowers and minerals. Lugano’s wines also have undeniable relationship to the sea (some he even ages in the ocean) and is perfect for New England wine lovers who gorge on coastal cuisine. The wines are fun, but most importantly, they are really good.

Today we are featuring one of our staff favorites, the brisk, racy, hugely gulpable 2017 Bisson Vino Frizzante Trevigiana Bianco. Frizzante is the perfect word here, you can practically hear the million bubbles popping on your tongue. It’s a casual sparkler, sourced by Mr. Lugano’s close friend in the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG – arguably the finest site for Prosecco in the region. Yes, this could be called Prosecco, but don’t do that. Because it’s better than Prosecco. Less about fruit and more about vivid thirst quenching minerals, this crown-capped bottle is Gatorade for adults.

2017 Bisson Vino Frizzante Trevigiana Bianco

From Importer Neal Rosenthal: “This wine is hand-harvested from shockingly steep hillside vineyards in the DOCG zone of Valdobiaddene. Made using careful temperature regulation in order to preserve delicacy and freshness, the wine is bottled with just two grams per liter of residual sugar—a refreshingly bone-dry offering that stands in sharp contrast to its many cloying peers. Clean, bright, and refreshing, it presents notes of acacia honey, white flowers, crunchy green apples, and tart nectarines atop a subtly mineral underlay.”
