This is a hot one, ladies and gentlemen! Domaine des Comtes Lafon is an icon of Burgundy. Long a standard bearer for excellence on the Côte de Beaune, his range of Meursaults and Volnays are legendary monuments to exactly what great Burgundy can and must be.
The Volnay 1er Santenots du Milieu has always been a special bottling, offering sultry, opulent fruit from the get-go, and yet also having the concentration and structure to age for decades. I have had the pleasure of drinking the 1990, 1993, 1996 1999 and many others. All have displayed brilliant purity of fruit, subtle spice notes and taffeta-like palate feels. In sum, it is a special wine.
Part of the reason surely is the Lafon magic touch, but the other part is surely the very old vines (40+ years) in the truly exceptional part of Santenots - namely du Milieu, which has the highest concentration of clay over a solid bedrock of limestone. Dominique is quite proud of the distinction here and makes sure to indicate it on the label: “Volnay 1er Santenots du Milieu.”
The 2015, however, is truly special. Meadows has already compared it to the 1999, 2005 and 2010. Heroically ripe and pure fruit counterbalanced by brilliant minerality and incredibly elegant tannins.
The lowest price in the country at the moment is $154.99. Today, we are offering at the crazy prices of $99.99 - more than 30% less than the lowest price in the country!
Let that sink in and don’t squander the opportunity to sock away 6 or 12 bottles. You won’t regret it.

92-95 pts. ♥: “This is also brilliantly spicy with its ultra-pure and pretty essence of black raspberry, floral and warm-earth suffused aromas. Like the Champans there is excellent underlying tension supporting the broad-shouldered flavors that are even more mineral-driven on the muscular, taut and driving finish. This wine always ages well and typically needs quite a bit of it and this terrific effort will be no exception. This could well rival the 1999, 2005 and 2010 versions in time.” 92-95 pts. “Sweet Spot, Outstanding”
