Rollin

Rollin has become a sensation in the past few vintages and - usually- whatever came in left almost as swiftly as it arrived. With good reason: these are some of the most elegant, lithe, beautifully elegant wines of Burgundy. And they don’t cost a fortune. And we still have some from the last offer. Yes. The world has turned upside down.

From previous offers: Remi Rollin has been among our most popular and desired Burgundies for years now. Every year seems to bring another swathe of zen-like balance and elegance in both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. I am very fond of this address, and even fonder of the days when we could open Neal’s book and see a range of available vintages in stock in Maspeth: Have a hankering for a lithe, mineral-rich red with some age, well, why not call up Neal and have send a couple boxes of 2005 Pernand Rouge 1er Ile de Vergelesses? You’ll need something to whet your whistle, though. How about 2002 Pernand Blanc 1er Sous Frétille?

Those days are long gone. The global explosion in demand for Burgundy has forced every restaurant, retailer and wine lover to suss out just who was really overlooked for all these many years. As such, appellations such as Pernand and St. Aubin were ripe for the picking. With excellent terroirs, promising growers and wines that very much fit the fashion of the day (lithe, energetic, soil-driven wines of minerality), buyers came flocking. PYCM and Hubert Lamy are now firmly among Burgundy’s rockstars, while excellent growers like Prudhon, Rollin, Dubreuil-Fontaine and Sylvain Langoureau have all garnered serious attention and devoted followings in the wake of the world’s hungry collectors.

Rollin may be chief among them. Fashioning ultrapure, transparent Burgundies of incredible length, minerality and energy, the wines have a sleekness that is somehow equally stony. Perhaps more than any other Burgundy producer in Neal’s book, these wines have a sense of place that is unmistakable, and unmistakably delicious.

Thus we have to face the sad reality that we only have a small handful of wines available. Nothing here is available in more than 24 bottles. So, get prepared to share, and get prepared to be disappointed. Allocations will favor previous customers of the wines.
