Pax

Look–does anyone not enjoy a bottle of Pax?

Prestigious, highly sought after, we’re thrilled to announce an exclusive offer on one of California’s premier and most sought-after producers of Syrah. Today we’re very fortunate to offer you the 2017 Hillside Syrah.

Last year this wine received 100 points (Antonio Galloni stated it was “one of the most profoundly beautiful California wines I have ever tasted”) and judging by the strength of 2017 and how well this baby tastes, we’re more than certain another EPIC SCORE will apply to this   as well.  Intensely concentrated, forceful, yet well-structured with incredible depth and terrific restraint, the Hillside Syrah is densely loaded with blueberry, velvety plum, edged with violets, tobacco and black pepper.

You may remember Pax Mahle when he made tidal waves a few years back as winemaker over at Donelan and Pax Wine Cellars. The Syrahs he produced were California power houses, receiving cult-like status and massive critical praise. Sourcing from cooler climate sites in Sonoma County and Mendocino, Mr. Mahle takes his inspiration from where all Syrah inspiration should come, namely, the Northern Rhône. The fairy tale abruptly ended in a dispute with ownership in 2008, resulting in Mahle leaving Donelan and forced to give up his own label, Pax. Since that time, he continued to bowl us over with another cult favorite, Wind Gap. After a lengthy legal battle, Mr. Mahle has finally reacquired the rights to his Pax label. For the press, wine geeks, and lovers of Syrah, this moment was something akin to a Syrah second coming. In the process, Pax has become one of the leading voices in a new modern era of California Syrah. We deeply urge you not to miss them.

LIMITED: 2017 Pax Hillside Syrah

2016 Review: “A wine of extraordinary purity and depth, the 2016 dazzles from the very first taste. The richness and power are simply breathtaking. Bacon fat, smoke, grilled herb and lavender are woven into a graceful, seamless core of inky blue/purplish fruit. Even with all of its intensity, the 2016 remains remarkably light on its feet. The Sonoma-Hillsides is a blend of fruit from Castelli-Knight Ranch, Griffin’s Lair and Walker Vine Hill, done with 100% whole clusters and aged in a combination of concrete and neutral oak, with no SO2. I am not sure how the 2016 will age, but I am also not sure it will matter, as most bottles will be long gone before that is an issue. Quite simply, the Sonoma-Hillsides is a total pleasure bomb and a modern-day benchmark for Syrah in California. Don’t miss it!” 100 Points, Antonio Galloni
