Pre-Arrival: Cardinale’s 96+ Point 2015: “Nearly impossible to resist!”

Today brings one of the most anticipated releases in the Napa calendar, with the magnificent and well reviewed 2015 Cardinale. Made every year as a blend of what is essentially the ‘greatest hits’ of Napa, with Oakville’s legendary To Kalon vineyard combined with mountain fruit from Diamond Mountain, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, and Spring Mountain. I was lucky enough to taste this at the estate in Oakville a couple of weeks ago, and it’s an absolute beast. Dark, powerful, brooding, and insanely high quality. As pointed out by both of the reviewers, while it will last decades if you want it to, this is drinking seriously well straight off the bat. Bravo!
2015 Cardinale Cabernet Sauvignon, $275 NET
“The 2015 Cardinale is dark, sensual and totally beguiling. Voluptuous fruit and soft, racy contours make a strong opening statement. The dark cherry, mocha, smoke, plum, spice and new leather flavors are all amped up in a seamless, alluring Cardinale that is going to be nearly impossible to resist in its youth. There is so much to like here.” 96 pts., Antonio Galloni, Vinous
“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cardinale Cabernet Sauvignon (containing 10% Merlot) gives beautiful red, black and blue fruit notes with touches of dried herbs, spice cake and unsmoked cigars, plus a waft of cedar. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm structure with plenty of gregarious mid-palate fruit, finishing with a lingering herbal lift. This seductive blockbuster is temptingly drinkable now and it should age gracefully over 15-20 years. 2,579 cases produced.” 96+ pts., Lisa Perotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate
