Alex Jules Russan is a Sherry lover, and as Jim Clendenen famously puts it on his own Au Bon Climat label, the “mind behind” Alexander Jules. Alex’s belief that Sherry can be amongst the most complex, versatile and deeply satisfying of all wines, particularly when they are carefully selected, blended and minimally processed, is one with which we here completely agree. A blend of barrels personally chosen by Russan for their superlative traits, this is a selection from one of our favorite producers of Manzanilla, Argueso. It has a very intense flor driven personality, some of the most powerful flor I have yet to encounter in a Manzanilla, in fact. It is technically a Manzanilla pasada for its age and extra yeasty richness. This is one to pair with a variety of foods; it will hold up admirably to a wide range of dishes so definitely feel free to experiment. The “saca,” or bottling, of this wine was in May 2013.
