Description

The House of Champagne Delamotte is the fifth-oldest Champagne house in the region, founded in 1760 and located in the heart of the Côte des Blancs in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Sister house and contiguous to the House of Champagne Salon, Delamotte produces no more than 50,000 cases annually, ensuring that the vineyards of Delamotte dominate the expression of its wines, defining the house’s elegant, mineral style. Through hard work in the vineyards and long aging in the cellars, the House of Champagne Delamotte has come to be recognized as one of the leading Champagne producers in the Cote des Blancs.

This wine is a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier, resulting in a fine wine which is powerful but not aggressive, with an agreeable freshness, supple roundness on the palate and a clean and fruity finish. It is aged a minimum of four years in the cellars before shipment (well over the legal minimum for Brut Champagne which is 18 months. Pleasant, well-balanced, with a light golden color, this wine is very mature and ready to drink immediately. The bouquet has a hint of citrus, with flowers, and lemon peel. It is an "easy Champagne" you can have for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all night long. Delicious as an aperitif, and equally delightful with a dessert.

There is good bottle age here, the wine full and ripe with an integrated dosage that is relatively high. Flavors of sweet pastry go with white nectarines and pears. It’s deliciously balanced, finishing with a soft, fresh aftertaste. — R.V.(50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier, with 7 g/l dosage): Bright straw. Vibrant aromas of lemon pith, pear skin and honeysuckle, with a chalky topnote. Dry, sharply focused lemon and lime flavors become deeper with air and pick up brioche and ginger nuances. Firm, chewy and dry, finishing with very good clarity and stony persistence.A bubbly with breadth and richness to its grapefruit, apple and honey aromas and flavors. Smooth and balanced, with a lively feel on the finish. Drink now through 2012. 2,000 cases imported. –BSThe NV Brut reveals attractive notes of smokiness, minerals, white peaches and flowers on a medium-bodied frame. This finessed Chardonnay offers excellent length, with lingering notes of minerality that frame the finish. This is Lot # L8117607, disgorged June, 2007. Note: I also tasted Lot # L8128307, disgorged October, 2007, which was quite similar, although it was perhaps a touch shorter on the palate. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010.Subtle aroma of baking spices. Frothy, ripe and easygoing, with supple flavors of pear, apple and spice and a slight dry edge. Finishes with moderate length and a hint of alcoholic dryness. IWC (Vinous).
