The Abacela 2010 Albarino was deliciously and invigoratingly bright and tart, with scents of corn shoots, lemon, orange, catnip, and borage. Phenolically pointed and piquant in finish to the point of being tight where I had hoped for just a bit more juiciness, I wonder to what extent that characteristic – or the temporarily reductive funk in which I found (and thus could not fairly assess) two sample bottles of their 2009 Tempranillo – might have been influenced by their having been closed with screwcaps. Next year I’ll hope to report more thoroughly on this estate’s wines.”
