col-dorcia-brunello-dinner
Autumn in Montalcino: Col d'Orcia Brunello Dinner

Join us at Boston's award-winning Standard Italian, the next-door sibling of Eastern Standard, for an evening dedicated to one of Montalcino's most storied estates: Col d'Orcia. Located just outside the medieval walls of Montalcino, on the hill overlooking the Orcia river for which it's named, the estate's winemaking roots stretch back to the 1700s, with 400-year-old olive trees still in production standing as living witnesses to that history. The estate is one of the oldest producers of Brunello di Montalcino, having crafted Italy's most revered red wine for more than a century.

The Franceschi family, of Florentine origin, first established the property in 1890, then known as Fattoria Sant'Angelo in Colle. After the first Brunellos were presented in 1933, the estate split in two, giving rise to Col d'Orcia as a distinct winery. Since 1973, the Marone Cinzano family has guided the estate's growth and its Brunello's success with Count Francesco Marone Cinzano at the helm since 1992.

Col d'Orcia spans 1,300 acres, 350 of which are planted to vine, in hilly terrain between the Orcia river and Sant'Angelo in Colle, dedicated primarily to Sangiovese — grown at roughly 450 meters above sea level on sunny, south-facing slopes, with a Mediterranean microclimate shaped by nearby Mount Amiata and cooling breezes off the Tyrrhenian Sea. Today it ranks as the third-largest winery in Montalcino by size. The estate is also a pioneer in sustainability: since August 2010, every vineyard, olive grove, field, and garden has been farmed exclusively organically, making Col d'Orcia the largest certified organic vineyard in Tuscany — a true "organic island" in Montalcino. Over the years, the estate has also amassed a library of more than 50,000 bottles of older Brunello vintages, an extraordinary archive of the property's winemaking legacy.

This special dinner will be hosted by Nicola Giannetti, Export Manager of Col d'Orcia, who will guide guests through the wines, vineyards, and traditions of Montalcino, with a multi-course menu from the Standard Italian kitchen built to showcase the estate's range — from the bright, easy-drinking Toscana Spezieri to the flagship Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Vento Riserva.

MENU

Passed Apps

Arancini — braised pork, fontina
Tonnato crostini — green peppers, soy
paired with Ferrari Brut Rosé & Col d'Orcia Toscana Spezieri 2024

Antipasto
Roasted mushrooms — robiola, egg yolk, focaccia
paired with Col d'Orcia Rosso di Montalcino 2022

Primi
Pappardelle — fennel sausage, roasted squash, aged parmigiano
paired with Col d'Orcia Nearco Sant'Antimo DOC and Col d'Orcia Olmaia Cabernet Sauvignon Sant'Antimo DOC 2018

Secondo
Red Wine Braised Short Rib — herbed polenta, roasted tomato-red wine sauce
paired with Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino 2021 and Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Vento Riserva 2016

Dolce
Crostata — wine poached pear

Ticket Price: $175 (inclusive of reception, meal, featured wines, tax and gratuity)

Wine vintages and food ingredients may be subject to change due to availability and seasonality.

Please alert us of any allergies or dietary restrictions at least 72 hours before the event.

Tickets cannot be refunded within 72 hours of the event.

Guests will be seated communally at long tables according to party reservations.
