Small is Beautiful – Our Favorite Domestic Pinot Noir, Hands Down.

A staple for budget-minded Pinot lovers, Evesham Wood’s Willamette Pinot combines handcrafted artisan quality with affordable weeknight pricing.
A model of small scale, boutique production using the same methods as their more expensive single-vineyard bottlings, this wallet friendly label continues to dominate the domestic Pinot value category. Their newest 2017 expression impresses with beautiful aromatics of hedgerow fruit and forest floor. On the palate, Evesham’s signature of tart red cherry, cola and spices are held together by a classy Old World inspired structure. With this amount of complexity, depth and backbone, Evesham Wood deserves (another) round of high praise for such an achievement at this low price point.

More About the Wine
You have to love Washington D.C. native Erin Nuccio’s story. Mr. Nuccio wasn’t blessed with being born into a multi-generation wine estate. Instead, his vinous upbringing was through retail. His clients were a blend of politicians, businessmen, chefs and industry insiders and the gig allowed him to experience some of the greatest wines in the world. Eventually, Mr. Nuccio had enough. Seeing burnout on the horizon, he jumped ship. He and his wife moved to the West Coast and attended viticulture and enology school in Northern California.
After earning his degree, they moved to the Willamette where they met Russ and Mary Raney of Evesham Wood. Upon first meeting, it became clear that they shared a philosophy of Old World winemaking. Mr. Raney allowed Erin Nuccio to apprentice under him and after years of working together the Raney family decided that Erin Nuccio would continue the Evesham Wood legacy. This was nine years ago, and you can see, quite clearly, that Evesham Wood is in good hands.
