We loaded up on this collectible icon. Many of you will know that there’s usually about three vintage declarations per decade, and that there are never consecutive declarations, as essentially a matter of policy. Following the 2016 declaration, it has turned out that 2017 was simply too good to follow that policy. Low yields made concentrated, extremely well structured and almost staggeringly tasty wines.
Tasting the 2017s was reminiscent of the already legendary 2011s on their release. They are full of depth and power, but obscenely smooth and shockingly easy to drink even in their youth. The end result is the first widely declared consecutive declaration since 1872 and 1873. If Dow's 2017 had not been something close to perfect, they would not have been produced.Total production is 5,250 cases
