History, Hills, and Honest Wine
Founded in 1986 by Russ Rainey, this estate has always stood for something more than just delicious wine. It has championed deep organic farming, dry-farming, and the belief that great wines must speak clearly of where they come from. Russ’s vision was unwavering—he was a founding force behind the Eola-Amity Hills AVA and co-founder of the Deep Roots Coalition, insisting that the best wines are grown without irrigation, in living soils, by people who understand the land. That vision lives on today under the careful guidance of winemaker Erin Nuccio, who has carried the torch since 2010 and elevated Evesham Wood into one of the most consistently compelling and best-valued producers in the region.
The 2022 Pinot Noir from Eola-Amity Hills is a beautiful encapsulation of what makes this part of Oregon so special. Drawn from dry-farmed vines at Le Puits Sec and a small group of like-minded neighboring vineyards—Sojeau, Koosah, Prophet, and Jubilee—this cuvée is a seamless blend of place, philosophy, and precision. It channels the signature energy of the Eola-Amity Hills, where cool Pacific breezes shape wines of tension, lift, and clarity. The 2022 vintage itself was one of challenges and swings, offering the kind of conditions that only old, dry farmed wines can shine in, resulting in fruit that was both bright and deep, with structure and finesse in equal measure.
In the glass, the wine is layered and aromatic, with notes that evoke both seasons and memory: ripe summer raspberries, hints of lavender, blood orange, and warming spice. It’s generous without being heavy, vibrant without being simple—there’s transparency here, a clear line from vineyard to bottle that reflects decades of thoughtful farming and patient winemaking. Like all great Evesham Wood wines, it offers more than just flavor—it offers authenticity, value, and a deep sense of place. For me, this is exactly what Oregon Pinot Noir should be.
93 Points, James Suckling
Charming nose of cherries, wild currants, dried herbs and forest floor. Medium-bodied with crisp acidity. Vivid, nervy and crispy throughout. There is a spicy dimension with a transparent, succulent character at the end. Drink or hold.
