Lake Garda’s Secret White
"Le Creete," from a single small parcel, is made with fruit from vines that are more than 50 years old. Grown just south of Lake Garda in the Veneto region, this wine is made from 100% Turbiana—a grape that until recently was often mistaken for Trebbiano but is genetically much closer to Verdicchio.
Ottella is one of the benchmark producers in Lugana, and “Le Creete” comes from clay-rich soils that give the wine both texture and aromatic complexity. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, it walks the line between freshness and intensity. Expect aromas of white peach, lime zest, chamomile, and crushed stone, followed by a palate that’s simultaneously soft and mineral, with a long, saline finish. It’s elegant, but not shy.
Lugana has become a favorite among sommeliers and wine professionals because of wines like this. “Le Creete” is versatile and food-friendly. As climate change shifts the borders of what defines cool-climate white wine, Lugana is emerging as a region that over-delivers on quality, expression, and value.
This has become a year-after-year favorite at Gordon’s, both in the store and on the Flash. While this is small production, whenever available you’ll find this in the cooler at our stores—so that staff can grab a bottle on the way home! I can’t think of a better endorsement than that.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
"Le Creete vineyard is located at the southern end of Lake Garda and planted on the limestone and clay soils that make this region so interesting. As if basking in the sun, the wine opens with aromas of warmed pineapple, guava and lemon with heady white flowers wafting in and out. The palate lifts with tart notes of passion fruit and lemon peel, with a texture that has layers upon layers to explore. Crushed chalky notes define the lengthy and elegant finish."
