A New Chapter for Puiatti and Friuli

When I first started in the wine business, Cantina Puiatti wasn’t a producer I gravitated toward. The wines were pleasant, but they didn’t quite have the energy or depth I was looking for. Fast forward a number of years, and the story has changed.

Significant reinvestment in both the vineyards and cellar has dramatically elevated the quality of Puiatti’s wines. Over the past few vintages, they’ve emerged as some of the best values in Friuli, showing noticeably greater concentration, brighter natural acidity, and far better balance. The 2024 releases are the clearest proof yet.

2024 Cantina Puiatti, Friuli Friulano Friulano is the heartbeat of Friuli, and this bottling finally captures the grape’s true potential. Notes of pear, white peach, almond, and fresh herbs unfold with impressive clarity, carried by a vibrant spine of acidity that keeps everything lifted and precise. The texture is silky, the finish gently savory, and the overall impression is one of harmony and finesse. This is a dramatic step up in quality from older vintages and a benchmark example of how refined Friulano can be.

2024 Cantina Puiatti, Venezia Giulia Ribolla Gialla Ribolla Gialla thrives on tension and freshness, and Puiatti’s reinvigorated approach brings exactly that. Bright citrus, green apple, and subtle floral tones lead into a palate defined by crisp acidity, minerality, and refreshing drive. There’s more concentration here than in past vintages, but without sacrificing the grape’s naturally vibrant character. The result is a wine that’s both serious and wildly drinkable.

What I appreciate about these wines today is their balance, freshness, and value. Thanks to improved farming and more thoughtful winemaking, Puiatti has transformed from a solid regional name into a true go-to source for modern Friulian whites, offering exceptional quality at highly accessible price points.

If you’ve overlooked Puiatti in the past as I once did, now is the perfect time to revisit. These 2024s are proof of just how far the estate has come.

Ribolla Gialla is one of the unique local grapes of Friuli and this bottling provides a textbook example of this worthwhile variety. The moment you pour the wine, it is as if you are picking the freshest and ripest apple in an orchard. In between hints of apples, the wine offers freshly cut white flowers, sea breeze and gravel. The palate continues with pear, wildflower honey and a distinct minerality that adds nuance on the finish.
