Spring Training: Red Wine Varieties – Inspired by the Mediterranean
After covering the fundamentals and classic benchmarks, it’s time to turn up the energy. Warm climates, sun-soaked vineyards, and centuries of tradition define the red wines of the Mediterranean. In this final class of the series, we’ll explore bold, expressive grape varieties that thrive in Italy, Spain, southern France, and beyond—wines known for their warmth, character, and food-friendly appeal.
You’ll taste and discuss Grenache and Syrah, known for their ripe fruit and spice, alongside Spain’s signature Tempranillo. We’ll also dive into Italy’s iconic grapes—Sangiovese and Nebbiolo—and round out the class with the uniquely American expression of Zinfandel.
This session focuses on how warmth, ripeness, and tradition shape flavor and structure, and how these wines pair beautifully with food. Expect lively discussion, clear comparisons, and plenty of “aha” moments as you connect Old World traditions with modern styles.
