Sauternes MasterClass with Chateau de Fargues
Join us for a rare opportunity to taste and learn alongside Philippe de Lur Saluces, whose family has shaped the legacy of Sauternes for generations.
Built in 1306, Château de Fargues entered the Lur Saluces family through the marriage of Isabeau de Montferrand to Pierre de Lur in 1472. For over 500 years, this historic estate has remained in the hands of the same family—visionaries who elevated the art of noble rot winemaking to its highest expression.
In 1785, Françoise- Joséphine de Sauvage d’Yquem married Louis Amédée de Lur Saluces. She became countess of Lur Saluces and brought the Château d’Yquem as a dowry. In 1826, she had a winery built in Yquem, a true innovation for the time.
With two centuries of shared history with Ch. d'Yquem, Ch. de Fargues is of Bordeaux's earliest cult wines.
And from 1943 to 2004, the Sauternes from the two properties were made identically, using the same attention to detail in the vineyard, the same vinification, and same aging.
Philippe de Lur Saluces is the son of Alexandre de Lur Saluces, the legendary figure who stewarded Château d’Yquem for more than 35 years.
This MasterClass will explore the philosophy, precision, and passion behind Château de Fargues, with a curated tasting of its richly complex Sauternes across vintages from the 2000s, 1990s and 1980s. Don’t miss this deep dive into one of the world’s most enchanting and age-worthy wines—led by one of its most esteemed voices.
