2021 Produttori del Barbaresco, ‘La Torre’
There are few names in Piedmont that inspire as much trust as Produttori La Torre. Founded on tradition, sustained by passion, and elevated by collective excellence, this is not just another winery, but it is a true growers’ cooperative, made up of 54 members who are all farmers first. Every bottle reflects generations of hands-in-the-soil experience and a shared belief that Barbaresco should be both profound and honest. In a region where quality and price can vary wildly, Produttori’s ‘La Torre’ has become the gold standard for delivering authentic, world-class Nebbiolo at remarkable value.
The fruit comes exclusively from Cru vineyards. While most producers reserve their top sites only for single-vineyard bottlings, Produttori La Torre blends the best of the best into their Barbaresco. This means you aren’t just tasting one hill or one slope. You’re tasting a symphony of the most important terroirs in the entire appellation. It is, in many ways, a “greatest hits” of Barbaresco in a single bottle.
And then there’s the vintage. 2021 in Piedmont has already been discussed by winemakers and critics as one of the finest in years, with comparisons to the legendary 2016s. The wines show that perfect balance of structure and finesse, with explosive aromatics, remarkable purity of fruit, and impeccable aging potential. 2021 gave Nebbiolo exactly what it craves: long, even ripening, ideal day-to-night temperature swings, and a stress-free harvest. Classically built wines with modern polish; seductive today, monumental tomorrow.
In the glass, the 2021 Produttori La Torre Barbaresco is everything we love about Nebbiolo: rose petals, red cherry, spice, earth, and that unmistakable Barbaresco elegance. The tannins are beautifully woven, the mid-palate is deep and textured, and the finish just keeps unfolding. It has pedigree, it has energy, and it has soul.
A co-op built on integrity. Grapes from the greatest sites. A vintage that rivals the most celebrated of the decade. And a price that still makes you shake your head.

2021 was an exceptional year in the Langhe as is clearly demonstrated by the gorgeous 2021 Barbaresco from Produttori. It boasts beautiful aromas of violet, rose, cake spice and mint that carry over to the elegant palate along with succulent red cherry, crushed raspberry and star anise. Taut, refined tannins and bright acidity keep it impeccably balanced. Made from blending Nebbiolo from different vineyard sites, this is the firm’s classic Barbaresco and is one of the greatest values in Italian fine wine.

This wine gives us our first taste of the epic 2021 vintage from a producer as prolific as Produttori del Barbaresco. Bottled in April 2024, this vintage shows the immense power and complexity that likens it to 2016, another year for collectors. The 2021 Barbaresco offers medium-rich density that is transmitted both to the wine's appearance and its mouthfeel. There is black fruit, spice and a touch of nutmeg. However, the wine maintains its youthful tension and energy throughout. The tannins are chalky, fine and void of any bitterness. This is a classical expression of Nebbiolo that gives us good reason to be excited for the upcoming 2021 Barbaresco Riservas. (ML) 95+
