At the helm is Pascal Dufaitre, a deeply respected figure in the region and former mayor of Brouilly. His approach is all about thoughtful vineyard work, careful extraction, and a focus on purity of fruit. The 2023 vintage shows everything you want here: ripe, dark cherry fruit layered with subtle earth, a hint of spice, and that classic Morgon backbone. There’s depth and structure, but also freshness and drinkability.
Also, this wine is inexpensive. Very, very affordable. I was personally surprised when I saw the prices. I usually taste without seeing costs, and I like to think I’m pretty good at judging value after all these years, but I was off on this wine by quite a bit–I really thought it would be twice the price that I was quoted. Bottles with this level of pedigree, history, and winemaking talent behind them simply do not usually land where this does on the shelf. This is the kind of wine that reminds me why Beaujolais remains one of the great insider categories in the wine world.
