A spectacular Alpine white that delivers far beyond its price point.
If there’s a better white wine under $25 in our cellar right now, I haven’t found it.
The 2025 Domaine des Ardoisières “Silice” Blanc IGP Allobroges is the kind of bottle that stops people in their tracks. It’s wildly distinctive, endlessly engaging, and frankly hard to believe at this price. Produced by Brice Omont in the dramatic foothills of the French Alps beneath Mont Blanc, Silice comes from ancient, steeply terraced vineyards that have been cultivated for more than 2,000 years. Everything is farmed by hand on unforgiving slopes, with vines averaging 60 to 70 years of age.
This is serious winemaking from a producer whose top cuvées regularly command well over $100 and appear on the wine lists of some of France’s most celebrated restaurants. Yet here we are.
The 2025 Silice Blanc delivers breathtaking freshness and energy from its blend of 40% Jacquère, 40% Chardonnay, and 20% Mondeuse Blanche. Aromatically, it leaps from the glass with alpine lift and crystalline precision. On the palate, expect layers of yellow orchard fruit, crisp apple, apricot, citrus blossom, and subtle almond notes, all framed by a vibrant mineral backbone that seems to echo the rocky mountain soils from which it came.
It offers the complexity and character of a far more expensive bottle while remaining completely refreshing and dangerously easy to enjoy. This is the kind of wine that reminds us why we love discovering small growers. Authentic. Energetic. Uncompromising. And astonishingly affordable.
Brimming with purity, mountain freshness, and mouthwatering minerality, the 2025 Domaine des Ardoisières “Silice” Blanc is one of the easiest recommendations we'll make all year.
Highly recommended before word gets out. This has been a regular offer from Gordon’s for years, and yet it’s somehow still a hidden gem.
