Pillot Punches Above His Weight—Again
Jean-Marc Pillot’s wines represent one of the best values in white and red Burgundy today, particularly when measured against their peers across the Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise. With deep family roots in Chassagne-Montrachet, Jean-Marc has built on generations of knowledge and vineyard stewardship to create a domaine that seamlessly marries tradition with thoughtful evolution. Since taking over from his father in 1991, he’s expanded vineyard holdings, refined vinification methods, and built a new cellar—changes that have helped define the graceful, expressive style that now defines the estate. These are wines that speak clearly of place, made with integrity and attention, and they consistently punch well above their weight.
The Bourgogne Blanc “Le Haut des Champs,” grown just outside of Chassagne-Montrachet, is no mere entry-level offering. Fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve freshness, it nonetheless bears the texture and depth associated with its more pedigreed neighbors—broad, mouthfilling, and generous. That same attention to quality and terroir expression defines the Rully Blanc “La Chaume,” sourced from a friend’s prime vineyard in the Côte Chalonnaise. With 18 months of élévage and a subtle touch of new oak, it drinks with the polish and completeness of wines twice its price.
For red Burgundy lovers, the Bourgogne Rouge “Les Grandes Terres,” from 65-year-old Pinot vines in Remigny, delivers remarkable vibrancy, energy, and authentic Côte de Beaune character—silky, exuberant, and pure-fruited. And then there’s the Santenay Rouge “Les Champs Claude,” where Jean-Marc’s light hand with whole-cluster fermentation and used oak frames a wine of lifted, spicy red fruit and mouthwatering tension.
Each of these wines is a snapshot of the estate’s deep commitment to farming, tradition, and honest craftsmanship, and at these prices, they offer rare access to top-tier Burgundy without the usual cost of entry. This is the extent of our annual allocation for each of these stunning wines, with only 24 of each available to us to sell. Order as many as you are able, and we will do our best to fulfill your order on a first-come, first-served basis.
