Ameztoi Rubentis Has Returned!
If you’ve been on our list for more than a year, you probably already know what time it is: Ameztoi Txakolina season. And like clockwork, the wines have landed. Just as reliably, they disappear almost as quickly. Perennial favorites, we will offer both the Rosato and Blanco from the 2025 vintage.
Every year these show up, every year people buy them by the armful, and every year we end up wishing we could buy more. If history is any guide, these won’t last long. If you’re a fan, now is the moment to stock up and get yourself ready for summer in proper style.
For the uninitiated, the hard to pronounce and even more difficult to spell Txakolina is the bracing, seaside white wine of Spain’s Basque coast. The vineyards sit just above the Bay of Biscay, where constant ocean breezes keep temperatures cool and the grapes ripening slowly. The result is exactly what you want when the weather starts heating up: bright acidity, featherweight alcohol, and absolute refreshment.
The Blanco is all citrus peel, green apple, and salty sea spray, snappy, bone dry, and endlessly drinkable. It’s the kind of wine that seems to disappear from the glass faster than you expect, especially when there’s seafood anywhere in the vicinity.
The Rubentis Rosato, meanwhile, might be the ultimate porch wine. Pale pink, vibrant, and just a touch more playful, it brings fresh strawberry and watermelon notes wrapped around that signature Txakolina snap. Like the Blanco, it’s completely dry and beautifully light.
One of my favorite ways to waste a Sunday summer afternoon is pretty simple: a bottle of the Rosato on ice, the Red Sox on the radio, a bowl of ice-cold watermelon, and nowhere else to be. Maybe we will grill. Maybe not. That’s the kind of moment these wines were made for.
So consider this your annual reminder: these always sell out. If you want to have them around when the first truly warm weekend hits, now’s the time to grab a case and stash them in the fridge.
Because summer will be here sooner than we think. When it arrives, you’ll want Txakolina ready.
