An Under-$20 White Burgundy I’d Buy by the Case (and Did)
Every once in a while, a wine lands on the table that just makes me stop for a beat. No analysis, no overthinking, no swirling and note-taking. Just pour, sip, smile, repeat.
That’s exactly what happened with the 2023 Les Jolis Terroirs Mâcon-Villages.
I wish I had a grand backstory for you. I don’t. There’s no glossy website, no polished marketing copy, and no internet footprint we could find. We even had to take the bottle photo ourselves. This wine is simply brand new to the market, arriving to us through our friends at Arborway, and quietly doing what great everyday Burgundy is supposed to do: taste absolutely delicious.
This is honest-to-goodness Mâcon Blanc at its best and purest. Fresh, lively, and satisfying in that way only white Burgundy can be. It has that easy balance of ripe orchard fruit and clean, refreshing lift that makes you want another glass before you’ve finished the first. It’s the kind of white you can pour before dinner, during dinner, into the dinner you’re making or honestly, while standing in the kitchen figuring out what’s for dinner.
No bells. No whistles. No long discussion about soil types, slope exposure, or levels of minerality. Just a well-made Chardonnay from southern Burgundy. Under $20.
In a world where white Burgundy has gotten very spendy very fast, finding something this genuine, this drinkable, and this affordable feels like a small miracle. It’s versatile with food, easy to love on its own, and crowd-pleasing without being boring.
I didn’t overthink this one. I just enjoyed it from the bottom of my heart.
From my table to yours, I hope you love it as much as I did. If it were me, and it was, I’d grab a case.
