Classic Crianza by Señorío de Peciña

Señorío de Peciña is a family-owned estate based in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the heart of Rioja Alta, one of the region’s most respected subzones. This is a part of Rioja known for elegance due to cooler influences, limestone-rich soils, and long, slow ripening that gives Tempranillo fragrance and natural balance. Peciña farms traditionally, with a deep respect for vineyard expression and a cellar philosophy that prizes time as its most important ingredient.

To understand this wine, it helps to understand what “Crianza” truly means. By law, Rioja Crianza must be aged for a minimum of two years, with at least one year in oak before release. At Peciña, “minimum” is never the goal. They go beyond the requirements, allowing the wine to rest long enough to develop softness, complexity, and harmony before ever reaching your glass. This is why Rioja remains one of the last great regions where real aging is built into the price.

The 2018 vintage is an outstanding one in Rioja offering ripe, healthy fruit alongside freshness and structure. It is a vintage that delivers both immediate pleasure and real staying power. In the glass, the wine opens with red cherry, plum, dried herbs, and baking spice, followed by subtle vanilla and cedar from its extended time in American oak. The palate is smooth and medium-bodied, with polished tannins and that distinctly Rioja combination of fruit, earth, and gentle savory lift. It is ready to enjoy right now yet it still carries the structure to develop gracefully for years.

This is also a wine that teaches you something every time you open it. It teaches how oak should support, not dominate. It shows how Tempranillo expresses elegance rather than sheer power. And it proves that tradition, when handled with care, never goes out of style.

92 Points, John Gilman
"The 2018 Rioja “Crianza” from Bodegas Peciña is a ripe wine in the style of the vintage, coming in at 14.5 percent octane. The wine offers a deep and utterly classical bouquet of red and black raspberries, clove-like Rioja spice tones, cigar wrapper, a beautiful foundation of soil, smoked meats and a lovely framing of American oak. On the palate the wine is deep, pure, full-bodied and ripe, with a superb core of fruit, excellent soil undertow, ripe, buried tannins and great focus and impeccable balance on the long, complex and potentially velvety finish. This is a top flight Crianza that is certainly already tasty, but will be even better with three to five years’ worth of cellaring and will evolve positively in bottle for decades. Think of this as La Rioja Alta-styled wine without pushing the envelope on oak. Fine juice."
