Excellent, Gluggable, Dry Lambrusco
Lambrusco in my mind is always of the Grasparossa style; dark, brooding, tannic and built for charcuterie boards. I do know it isn’t always that, but first impressions can be very lasting. The 2024 Paltrinieri Lambrusco dell'Emilia ‘Solco’ is one that really flipped my thought upside down and made me remember how bright and fun these wines can really be.
Instead of weight and density, ‘Solco’ leans into brightness and energy. From the first pour, it’s lifted and aromatic, bursting with fresh red fruits wrapped in an incredibly floral profile that practically jumps from the glass. It’s lively in all the right ways.
This is a bottle that helps remember that Spring will, eventually, arrive this year as it does every year. The bubble is light and nәarly weightless, giving the wine a refreshing, easygoing feel that makes it incredibly drinkable. It’s the kind of Lambrusco you reach for not because you need something to pair with food, but because you want something delicious, vibrant, and just plain enjoyable.
This is the most approachable Lambrusco I’ve had all year. It’s joyful, it’s fresh, it’s fun, it’s unpretentious, and it reminded me what this category can be. Perfect for a casual night, a spring afternoon, or anytime you want a red wine that drinks with the ease of a white.
