FROM ONE OF THE GREAT ESTATES IN CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE, THIS 93-POINT RHÔNE IS JUST $19.99 THRU SUNDAY

Clos du Mont-Olivet is a multigenerational family estate based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, founded in 1932 by Séraphin Sabon. Today, the estate remains in the Sabon family, continuing a traditional approach to winemaking in the Southern Rhône.

The estate is particularly known for its Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and the Wine Advocate has described Clos du Mont-Olivet as “one of the great estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.”

The 2022 Côtes du Rhône Vieilles Vignes is a Côtes du Rhône bottling from the estate, made from vines averaging about 50 years old. The blend is 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault and 5% Carignan, with fruit from sandy soils rich in quartz.

James Suckling awarded the 2022 93 points, noting its ripe red fruit, fine tannins, licorice and sandalwood. La Revue du Vin de France awarded it 91 points.

“Wonderful aromas of summer flowers and ripe red fruits… The tannins are remarkably fine… with notes of licorice and sandalwood.” — James Suckling

Expect ripe red and dark fruit, spice, garrigue and savory character, with fine tannins and a lingering finish. The wine is listed to drink through 2030.

We think this is a particularly good Rhône to have on hand as we head into fall. It has the fruit, structure and savory character to work beautifully in many different dishes suited for fall but we think you should use this as an excuse to make a large pot of beef stew. Serve with warm bread & good butter. Here’s a recipe that I’ve personally executed with ease.
