For generations, Domaine Alain Michelot has been rooted in Nuits-Saint-Georges, crafting wines that reflect the character of the region. Even the entry level Bourgogne Rouge is substantially declassified NSG fruit. While Michelot is rightly known for their village and premier cru wines, the 2023 Alain Michelot Bourgogne Rouge may be one of the most important bottles they make because it offers a true, unfiltered introduction to both the domaine and the vintage. This is real Burgundy, the same growers’ discipline and the same cellar philosophy as their top wines just from younger vines and broader appellation sourcing.

The 2023 vintage in Burgundy is a beautiful one for drinking now. It offers vivid red fruit, purity, and freshness. It is a vintage that favors transparency over power, which makes it especially perfect for Bourgogne Rouge. Fresh cherry, wild strawberry, soft spice, gentle earth, and that savory Burgundian undertone that makes Pinot Noir so endlessly seductive are all there.

This is not a thin, anonymous Bourgogne meant to disappear into the background. There is real presence where fine tannins and bright acidity seamlessly flow from nose to palate. It drinks beautifully on release, yet still carries the structure to evolve for several years if you wish to lay some down.

The 2023 Alain Michelot Bourgogne Rouge is not trying to be something it isn’t. It is not pretending to be grand cru. It is simply beautifully made Burgundy, priced for real-world drinking, from a domaine that has earned its reputation over time, with consistency.

Importer Notes
"Located in the heart of Nuits-Saint-Georges, the Domaine Alain Michelot cultivates 8 hectares of vineyards over Nuits-Saints-Georges and Morey-Saint-Denis. The property dates back to the end of the 19th century around 1880. Four generations of winemakers have contributed to the reputation of this Domaine which has its goals of authenticity and quality. The ageing of the various appellations lasts 18 months in oak barrels (with 25% new barrels). A benchmark producer of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Alain is assisted by his daughter Elodie, who continued the tradition."
