One of Rioja's Greatest Values Is Back
We've offered this bottling every year for the past several vintages, and every year I'm reminded why. Quite simply, I love these wines. They have become one of the bottles I look forward to tasting each vintage because they never lose sight of what makes Rioja such a special place. They aren't trying to be bigger, richer, or flashier than everyone else. They are simply honest, beautifully made wines that taste unmistakably like Rioja.
Peciña has quietly become, in my mind, one of the benchmark producers of the region. Founded after decades spent at the legendary La Rioja Alta, the estate remains deeply committed to traditional Rioja. They farm their own vineyards, harvest by hand, ferment with restraint, and age their wines patiently, believing that balance and finesse will always outlast fashion.
The 2024 Cosecha Joven may be the youngest wine they produce, but it is far more than a simple, fruity red. Built primarily on Tempranillo, it offers vibrant aromas of cherry, blackberry, wild herbs, and a touch of spice. The palate is fresh, energetic, and beautifully balanced, with lively acidity, supple tannins, and remarkable purity of fruit. There is no heavy oak to get in the way, just bright, expressive Rioja that invites another glass.
These wines are delicious when they're young, but they're made with the same care and philosophy as the estate's more serious bottlings. Even their most approachable wine carries the signature of a producer that understands restraint, patience, and craftsmanship.
In a world where everyday wines continue to creep upward in price, this remains one of the bottles I recommend most enthusiastically. It's the kind of wine I open without hesitation on a weeknight, but it's also the kind of bottle that reminds me why I fell in love with Rioja in the first place.
If you've purchased previous vintages from us, I think you'll be thrilled with the 2024. If you're new to Peciña, this is an ideal introduction to one of Rioja's benchmark producers and one of my personal favorites. I have a feeling this will once again become one of the best values in the store.

The young red 2024 Señorío de P. Peciña Cosecha Tinto is primary and fruit-driven, with notes of berries and herbs and a note of licorice that emerged with some time in the glass. This is unoaked and has no makeup; it's just juicy, lush and velvety, produced with a light extraction to make it approachable and easy to drink. It's not a shy wine at 14.5% alcohol.
