Our Favorite Champagne, Gosset, at Lowest Legal Price

At home in the Cotes du Blancs in the Grand Cru village of Ay, Gosset dates back half a millenia and claims the mantle of being the oldest house in Champagne. Truly, this is the OG. What I love about this history and this wine is that Gosset has been making wine since before Champagne was intentionally bubbly; this is wine, first and foremost, and is intentionally made as such. With no malolactic fermentation and extended lees aging Gosset makes a wine that exudes terroir and honesty of place, which is all too uncommon in Champagne. In my mind, this is a wine from Champagne that has bubbles and is all the finer for it.

I’m not going to give you the full runaround on this one. We have offered it out annually, and with good reason–it’s excellent. Currently, the USA low price on wine searcher is $44.99–for a HALF BOTTLE! Load up on this and enjoy. This year’s release also garnered some of the best press I’ve ever seen for Gosset, at 96 Points from WS.

"White truffle and Parmesan cheese hints on the nose, as well as a deeply golden hue, hint at the depth and complexity of this statuesque Champagne. Softly creamy in texture, with the fine china–like acidity and a streak of salinity working in tandem to define layered flavors of plumped white cherry, dried apricot, pain d'épices, honeycomb and roasted nuts. A fragrant, savory thread of dried mint, saffron, smoke and oyster shell gains momentum and lingers on the lasting finish."
