Piedmont’s Next Rising Star

I love introducing wines at the very beginning of a producer’s story. The 2023 Rosso Bacher Langhe Nebbiolo is only the third vintage from Marisa Bacher, and notably the first vintage ever available outside of the winery. To give you a sense of how small this project started her debut release of 2020 was just 200 bottles total. This is a name you’ll want to remember.

Marisa is part of an exciting wave of small, quality-obsessed Piemontese growers, and like the other rising talents brought to us by Jace at Vine Farmer, she overdelivers in a big way. Even though the label reads Langhe Nebbiolo, the grapes come exclusively from Neive in Barbaresco and Serralunga d’Alba in Barolo; not from lesser surrounding areas. That’s serious terroir, and you can taste it.

The nose is beautifully lifted and floral, with the kind of pretty aromatics Nebbiolo lovers chase, full of rose petals, red blossoms, and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine shifts gears, showing the darker fruit profile and structural depth that Serralunga is famous for. There’s real backbone here, balanced by freshness and energy, making it both immediately appealing and structured enough to evolve over the next several years.

Production remains extremely limited, and with a young producer working with top-tier vineyard sources, this is the kind of wine that tends to disappear quickly once people catch on. Beyond the quality in the glass, there’s also the opportunity to get in early. You can share, brag about, and cellar a wine from a grower who is clearly on a sharp upward trajectory.
