Pure Gamay. Thanksgiving is coming.
Marcel Lapierre, the man who helped spark the natural wine movement and redefined what Beaujolais could be—a wine of purity, transparency, and joyful drinkability—left a legacy that continues to inspire. Today, that legacy is carried forward by his children, Mathieu and Camille Lapierre, whose commitment to organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking remains unwavering.
The 2023 “Le Beaujolais”, feels like both a return to roots and a gentle evolution. Sourced from organically farmed vineyards just outside Morgon, this cuvée captures the essence of Lapierre’s philosophy—vivid fruit, lifted energy, and a texture that feels almost weightless. The 2023 vintage, marked by freshness and balance after several warm years, allowed the Gamay to express itself with extraordinary clarity: crunchy red cherries, violets, and a faint whisper of spice that could only come from Beaujolais’ granite soils.
Unlike the domaine’s Morgon bottlings, which often invite contemplation, Le Beaujolais is meant for pure pleasure—a bistro wine of the highest order. It’s the kind of bottle you chill lightly, open without hesitation, and find gone before the evening’s end. There’s no artifice here—just honest, soulful wine that reminds you why Lapierre remains the benchmark.
Thanksgiving is coming. There is no wine that can bring more joy to the table than Beaujolais. It’s the taste of a family tradition that continues to define natural wine, one vintage at a time. Hopefully it will become a tradition on your table.
Notes from Neal Martin, Vinous
The 2023 Le Beaujolais, which debuted after the devastating 2021 vintage forced Lapierre to introduce a new wine to his lineup, comes from 1.5 hectares dedicated to this new cuvée. It has a lovely, heartwarming bouquet with red cherries and just a faint hint of autumn leaf. The palate is well balanced with crunchy red fruit and a pinch of white pepper, vibrant on the finish. Delicious.
