Yes, It’s Another Thévenet—And You’re Gonna Want It
I know, I know—another Thévenet wine. You’re probably wondering if I’ve taken up residence in their cellar or started a side hustle as an unpaid spokesperson. But listen: when the wines are this good (and this absurdly underpriced), I’d be doing us both a disservice not to shout about them again. So here we are—round two, and this time, it’s red.
The 2023 Domaine Thévenet et Fils Bourgogne Rouge “Les Clos” is what happens when Pinot Noir remembers where it came from: a south-facing slope in the village of Bussières, clay soil underfoot, and not a whiff of new oak to distract from the fruit. The result is a wine that’s honest, vibrant, and completely unbothered by trends. It’s all blackberry, raspberry, and plum wrapped up in just the right amount of rustic structure—the kind that makes you crave fall food, a fireplace, and a reason to make Coq au Vin on a weeknight.
Here’s the catch (because there’s always a catch): they barely make any of it. A few hundred cases come to the U.S. each year, which is apparently what happens when you spend decades running a top-tier vine nursery and crafting wine with actual integrity instead of chasing yield charts. And yet—miraculously—this wine still comes in under $20. I have no idea how they’ve managed to dodge Burgundy’s usual pricing gravity, but I’m not asking questions. I’m just buying as much as I can before someone over there starts doing math.
So yes, I’m doubling down on Thévenet. First the Macon Blanc, now this. It’s not favoritism if it’s deserved, right?
Let me know how many bottles you’d like before the word gets out and it’s gone. Again.
