Wine for Fun, Semplicemente
This is exactly the kind of wine I need to drink right now: lively and refreshing. If my weather forecast is correct, this is the first 90 degree day of the year in the Boston area, and a harbinger of more to come. Line them up, knock them down.
Made by the legendary Bellotti family at Cascina degli Ulivi in Piedmont, this Bianco carries a gentle mineral with just enough acid to make the wine feel lifted and vibrant without overwhelming the palate. It’s bright, citrusy, lightly textured, and endlessly drinkable. Hence, line them up, knock 'em down. Just you and a few of your best friends and the first real heat of the year.
And while this absolutely falls into the world of natural wine, I love how clean and refreshing it remains. There’s no heavy funk, no volatility, no “you-have-to-be-into-natural-wine” caveat here. It’s simply delicious. Fresh orchard fruit, lemon,a little wild herb character, energetic acidity, maybe a touch of coriander spice and that subtle mineral combine into something incredibly easy to love.
This is also an LD import, meaning that quantities are limited and the wine a little harder to come by than your average casual weeknight white. But despite the pedigree, there’s nothing precious about it. In fact, the whole spirit of “Semplicemente Vino” is right there in the name: simply wine.
Serve it cold. Open it with snacks. Drink it outside. Pour it for people who think they don’t like natural wine. Pour it for people who only drink natural wine. It works either way. And always have one more bottle on hand than you think you’re going to need. You’ll appreciate yourself.
