We move West to East with our lineup of on-sale straight bourbons! Woodinville Whiskey Company, founded in 2010, has emerged as a prominent figure in American craft distilling. Driven by a shared vision to produce world-class whiskey outside traditional regions like Kentucky, they established their distillery in Woodinville, Washington. With guidance from the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, they committed to a grain-to-glass philosophy, sourcing grains from the Omlin family farm in Quincy, Washington, and overseeing every production stage. Their dedication to quality and craftsmanship has earned them numerous accolades, including "Best Straight Bourbon Whiskey" at the 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Our bourbon begins with aromas of honey, pine, and herbaceous spice with a palate that is barley-forward, with a unique and enjoyable bready quality, balanced by sweet brown sugar. The finish is fruity with cherry and oak, lingering with light tobacco as the glass opens up.
Moving to Indiana, MGP distilled bourbons have had a significant influence on the craft bourbon industry by providing a high-quality, consistent source of aged whiskey for emerging brands. Many small or new distilleries, or even Non-Distilling Producers, have turned to MGP to source bourbon that met their desired profiles, to establish their places in the market, or to take advantage of unique storehouses of desired flavors and unique palates. We are bringing back two heavy hitters from our lineup of MGP bourbons, a New England Barrel Company six year bourbon reminiscent of Knob Creek maple and black pepper notes, as well as our eight year Pinhook vertical series highlighting sweet corn, dusty notes of tobacco and caramel, giving way to figs and cinnamon.
We close with a tour of Kentucky, where we sample a wide range of rye mashbills. Rye plays a crucial role in shaping the character of high rye mashbill bourbons, contributing bold, spicy, and complex flavor profiles that distinguish them from traditional bourbons with lower rye content. The increased rye proportion enhances notes of black pepper, clove, and baking spices, often balanced by the inherent sweetness of the corn in the mashbill. On the low rye side, our 1792 Full Proof pick is arguably the best value you can find on the market. Complex, bold, and sweet cherry notes at full proof and under $40 is an absolute steal! Drive an hour East and you come to Wilderness Trail, a distillery widely known for tinkering with both rye and barley to concoct unique flavor profiles.
