Perched high in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Mount Eden Vineyards is one of California’s most historic—and quietly extraordinary—wine estates. Join us for a special MasterClass with Michelle Duckett, National Sales Manager, as we explore the remarkable wines and complex terroir of this legendary property, including both Mount Eden Vineyards and Domaine Eden.
Long before California’s modern fine-wine landscape took shape, Mount Eden was producing site-driven Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon from its rugged mountain vineyards. Planted in the early 1940s by Martin Ray, the estate became an early champion of varietal wines at a time when much of California’s production was still dominated by field blends. Today, Mount Eden remains remarkably true to its roots, crafting wines of depth, structure, longevity, and unmistakable place.
We’ll explore the distinctive character of the Santa Cruz Mountains, where elevation, cool maritime influence, fractured limestone and shale soils, and steep, rugged terrain create an environment unlike almost anywhere else on the West Coast. Alongside Mount Eden’s estate wines, we’ll taste through Domaine Eden, the estate’s sister property, discovering how these wines express the same remarkable mountain landscape through a different lens.
From age-worthy Chardonnay and elegant old-world influenced Pinot Noir to Cabernet Sauvignon with the structure and staying power to evolve for decades, these are wines that reward curiosity—and time in the glass.
