A remarkable value that is quickly becoming impossible to source, there is a mounting urgency for us to place an order on the fast disappearing and crazy delicious 2017 Brovia Sori del Drago. Why? Because the entire U.S. market–New York, Chicago, Los Angeles–all want it, and want it bad. So should you.

With its enormous energy and intoxicatingly plush shades of sweet plum and raspberry core, Brovia’s stellar 2017 Barbera D’Alba “Sori’del Drago” demands the attention (and praise) from those who do not believe in the brilliance serious Barbera can provide. While Drago’s openhearted exuberance will prove a near impossible to keep your hands off of in the near term, patience and well-timed cellaring will also be deeply rewarded. Stock up on this impeccable gem!

2017 Brovia Barbera Sori del Drago

From Importer Neal Rosenthal: “This Barbera is produced from grapes harvested in the “Garblet” vineyard (also known as “Fiasco”) of Castiglione Falletto from a 0.8 hectare plot on a south-southeast facing slope at 250 meters altitude. The major part of the vineyard was planted in 1970 with a portion being replanted in 1993. The “Sori del Drago” is fermented at 28 degrees Celsius for slightly more than a week. The wine is then racked into stainless steel tank and is aged for 15 to 18 months before being bottled (unfiltered).”

More About the Wine

Brovia’s “Sori del Drago” is sourced from the much beloved “Garblet” vineyard in Castiglione Falletto from a tiny (0.8 hectare) portion on a south-southeast facing slope. Perhaps most importantly, the soil here is limestone. This does not come as any surprise given the focus and cut “Drago” holds. While the fruit on the 2017 is impeccably balanced on the intersection of splendor and restraint, it is the faintly visible but clearly present mineral shadings brought on by limestone that make this wine so compelling and special. Perfect as a reward to start your weekend nights, stock up on the 2017 vintage and watch as your guests ask you again, and again, and again: wait, what Barbera is this?
