Tropical Chablis: 2016 Huguet Can Feixes Blanc Seleccio
Posted on: 04/27/18 3:35 PM
For those who enjoy crisp medium body wines but have drowned in the monotony of The Big Three (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio) or we’re excited to show you our little $13 hidden treasure. We love this stuff. Stone fruits, lemon, lime with thirst quenching acidity, refreshing low alcohol (12%) this is delicious (and crazy inexpensive) highly satisfying charmer. Think Chablis taking a much needed tropical vacation and you’re getting close.
2016 Huguet Can Feixes Blanc Seleccio
“Apple, melon and apricot aromas are pure and come with zero interference from natural funk or oak. A blend of mostly Parellada with Macabeo and other white grapes, it hails from the highest vineyards in the Penedès. Flavors of melon, lime and wet stones reflect gravelly soils, and it’s steady on a long finish.” 90 Points ,“Best Buy” Wine Enthusiast
More About the Wine
Just because the charm factor is high here, please do not be fooled. This is a seriously well-made wine from an unusually ambitious and historical winery in Cataluña. What do I mean by that? We’re talking about the Feixes family making wine here for over 400 years. We’re talking about really, really good terroir, the highest vineyards in the appellation resting 1,500 feet up on mountainside soils of gravel, chalk and clay. We’re talking about all organic viticulture, zero additives and highly skilled, detailed winemaking. Everything is done by hand, starting with the harvest and ending with the manual hand cranked bottling. Each bottle, I kid not, is individually numbered. That’s very impressive, caring and serious winemaking. We applaud Huguet Can Feixes for their tremendous effort, especially for such an easy going, deliciously casual wine.
